New Front Page

May 9th, 2006

OK. The new front page is live. I’ve changed it so that it’s now featuring six clips instead of 3. I’ll try to rotate the clips (manually editing the image and the image map) every couple of days so that we feature a lot more videos on the front page. The ultimate solution would be some script that rotated the images but I’ve yet to find something that would give the polished look I want for the clips.

A couple of you have emailed me to suggest moving to 9 clips on the front page. Thanks for the suggestion. I kind of like the idea of a 3×3 “video wall” feel for the front page. I think I’m going to leave it at 6 for at least a week or so and see how that does in terms of getting more views for featured ads.

Next on the agenda for me is to get the submission pages fixed up again. Stay tuned.

More Flicks and Other Updates

May 8th, 2006

We’re making some good progress at getting Flicks posted to the site. With the batch that went up today, we’ve now got 128 videos live.

In the next day or so, I will have a refresh of the front page completed. This new front page will feature 6 Flicks instead of the three that we’ve had since the site launched. This should help us get more exposure for more of your videos. Also, by popular demand, the Backstage navigation is back.

As soon as I get that completed, I’ll tackle the submission pages and get those cleaned up of any contest residue so that we can start accepting new submissions. If you missed the contest deadline and wante to contribute, or you’ve got new ideas or new ads, you’ll soon be able to share those with the world.

We’re really excited about how much traffic the site is still getting and we’re continuing to do what we can to keep it in the spotlight. You all can help by blogging the Flicks, sumitting stories to sites like Slashdot and digg.com, emailing videos to your friends, advertising flicks at your blog or other Web site (Jamey made an excellent banner and you can also use any of the three great buttons at the SFX affiliate program.)

Keep your eye on the blog for continuing updates.

Flicks 30 Second Ads continued

May 3rd, 2006

Late in the contest we received a lot of feedback that people found out about it too late to get their Flicks in before the deadline. We’re sorry you missed the deadline, but we’d love to see your Flicks! We’ll have a new system in place soon for you to upload, but in the interim, please do post to your favourite video sharing site and email me your link!

More Flicks

May 3rd, 2006

We’re still hard at work encoding and posting new Flicks. Last night we got about 25 new ones posted and I hope to be able to repeat that today. Thanks for your patience.

Summer Internship for Flicks Participants

May 1st, 2006

This summer, we have an internship opportunity tied to Firefox Flicks. If you entered the Flicks competition as a student and would be interested in working with us for the summer on the next phase of Flicks and other video-related projects, including development of podcasts and potentially filming “behind the scenes” content we’re highly interested in talking to you!

Marketing Internships will generally run from June to September (depending upon your school schedule) and will be based in Mountain View, California.

This is a paid internship and there will be travel and relocation assistance available.

So, if you’re interested, please send a copy letter in the body of an e-mail with your resume — including the name of your Flicks entry and/or other work you’ve done as part of Spread Firefox — to cbeard at mozilla dot com.

The deadline for application is Friday, May 5th, so please get your email to Chris Beard as soon as possible.
