Join us for the celebration

Tomorrow afternoon, at the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco, we’re having a Firefox Flicks celebration event. The afternoon will include a great panel discussion covering topics from user-generated content to interactive and viral marketing, a screening of top Flicks, and the Firefox Flicks awards ceremony.

If you’re in the area and would like to attend, please email our event coordinator, Debbie Litle and we’ll get you added to the list.

  1. Can't be there, but... Says:

Any chance for some ad hoc live internet stream of the event?

Anyway, have fun and may the best ad win! :)

  2. Brad Says:

This stuff is really amazing. I wish I’d seen it sooner because I’d have loved to make an ad for firefox. It’d be cool for Firefox to have a video section comprised of other short films etc that people have created because it’d be awesome but allow people to showcase their talent on a decent browser lol

The value to entrants in this contest was in having their work seen by peers, judges and the general public. For three quarters of them, two thirds of that consideration has not occurred and when it does it will be devalued by the drop-off in interest in a completed contest, and the unreceptive attitudes exemplified by many of the remaining commenters. Is there then any reason to suppose that the third category of viewers, the judges, actually looked at all of the entries and in a timely fashion?

I’m sure judges will view all entries. Even the part that is published here has satisfactory density of funny, interesting, creative, etc work. And even the crappiest ones are still amusing in a way. And, wouldn’t you be curious to see what people have done?

I can easily picture them with pizza and beer, sitting around and having fun disecting our “sweat and tears”. Why not watch all 280 of them. it’s only some 2-2.5 hours.

  5. Nick Says:

I am curious to know if all 280 submissions where voted upon by the judges. As of now, Less then 25% of those are viewable online, and the 5 finalists are among these. I am worried that the other 75% aren’t getting fair participation in the contest.

  6. marco casteleijn Says:

@Nick: All flicks have been seen by the judges. Judging is not done on this site. Do not worry ;o)

@Brad: Do not despare! I have the feeling we will do this again in the future ;o) Just wait for it, wait for it, wait for it….

    Marco,
Do you work at Mozilla? If so, how about addressing the fairness compoenent of Nick’s question, which would seem to have to do with when and under what circumstances the judges’ viewings occurred.

the only concern I have about the judging is that the 5 winners were among the first 25% up… I’m not to good at stat but doesn’t that mean the odds of that happening unintenionally (5 hits within 25%) 1 in 1024(4^5)? If the first ones up were a “sampling” as noted earlier doesn’t that imply that they weren’t the best of the best? …sorry if that was a bit confusing
