Ten More Videos

There are ten new videos posted to the site today, and as Blake noted in an earlier post, we’ve also shifted the order some so that newer videos are featured somewhat more heavily on the Flicks video listing page. We’ve also increased the number of videos on each page and added more prominent navigation to encourage people to explore more than just the first page of videos.

Check out the latest videos, and don’t forget to share your praise or (constructive) criticism.

Note: we realize this change has introduced an ordering issue when moving between pages and will be fixing that tomorrow.

  2. Everybody left! Says:

Now that the contest has been decided, it looks like nobody is watching the new videos.

  3. Robert Says:

Or maybe because a majority of the new videos are terrible. After watching them, I come out more confused than before.

  4. Everybody left! Says:

Yeah, but the terrible flicks at the beginning have thousands of views for their terrible-ness. I’m just going to guess that in the remaining 190 something there are spots as good (or bad) as in the initial dozen.

  5. Poorly Run Contest Says:

It’s a good thing Firefox knows how to program a web browser, because they are completely inept at running a film festival.

What was the point of this contest? At first it seemed like an open call for broadcast quality ads. As in, the point of the contest was to find the best commercial for Firefox, and then use the winning entry in an ad campaign. But as I’m filtering through the competition and looking at the list of finalists, all I can imagine are the judges giggling and saying “heh, that was cool!~1″ “lol, i see what they did there…” If the winners were meant to fuel an ad campaign I fear for their effectiveness on a national broadcast level. More importantly I feel really sorry for the people that have to watch them on TV wondering what the hell Firefox is and why its so much more esteemed than IE.

Note: I’m not angry my entry didn’t win, I’m dissapointed that many excellent entries got shitcanned for no appartent reason.

  7. what a joke Says:

    completely agree…
at least company like converse won’t make a 4 weeks bu..s..t..buzz on the net before they select what they want..
they just pick what they want when is time…no questions asked…end of the story.. nobody knows..clean deal!

  8. Disappointed Says:

Ditto… We had no illusions that our entry would win, but it would have been nice to at least have had it on-line before the Firefox announced the winners. Why bother coming back? I also have a heard time believing that out of the 190 left there isn’t at least 1 or 2 worth Honorable Mention? How can you know which ADs will have a viral effect and spread across the web, unless Firefox can actually tell the future, in which case it really is a super cool browser (except for those annoying memory leaks which require me to restart it every day.)

  9. Hmmmm.... Says:

If i have understood correctly, the videos that have been published, are not in any way “finalists”

And finally, allow us to emphasize again that clip popularity does not affect the outcome of the contest, which is judged entirely by our esteemed panel.

Still, i agree that the interest in videos will fall dramatically once the winners are announced. That’s a bit disappointing for all those whose work has not yet been published. IMHO, for the next contest (if there will be one) there should be a different presentation approach. Since recoding all the movies to appropriate web format is a big job, maybe there shoud be more time left between the end of the competition and jury decision, so that all of the entries have a chance to be viewed before the decision is known. What i would really like to see is a special voting section where only ppl that have submitted entries vote for the best ad.

Other than that, i havent really had big hopes about my entry, and i still hope i will see it on theese pages one day. It was a great fun making it even though (or because) it took quite some effort to bypass all unpredicted hurdles. I learned a lot during the process so i’m happy with that.
A pat on the back from the “fellow artists” would feel good though. Maybe next time :)
